Lab 5

Create a Layered Photoshop composition

Make a photo composition in Photoshop by combining 5-8 different images. Each image will need to be on its own layer so that you can stack them as you envision. Use one of the selection tools reviewed today to remove unwanted areas. Keep your file saved in Photoshop format (.psd) to maintain your layers. Your final working Photoshop file should be approximately 8″ x 10″ at 300ppi.

Feel free to use your own photos or ones sourced online. Unsplash is a very good source, others are listed on my resource page.

The quality of each person’s composition will vary based on how much experience they already have in Photoshop. Be creative and see how much you can do with the tools we’ve reviewed so far. If you feel like you’ve completed the composition and still have time left, start a new one and do something more challenging.

Turning In Your Work

Once you’ve completed your assignment (pushed your skills as far as you can go within the time limit) you need to turn it in. Save your file as a Photoshop file (that saves all of your layers, etc.) and give it a name in this format: LastName-Lab5.psd (i.e. Hayes-Lab5.psd would be mine). Now compress it into a zip file (on a Mac, right-click on the file and select Compress from the menu). Upload the resulting zip file to my DropBox. (If you need help you can watch the video Turn Assignments In Using DropBox).
