Week 6: PS Filters, Adjustment Layers

Intro to this Week

Tuesday I’m giving you an extended lab so that you have time to wrap up our latest Lab assignment by end-of-class. I am assigning you homework on Photoshop Filters; make sure to read and watch those videos before Thursday.

This Week’s Work

TUESDAY

Homework: PS Filters

Photoshop filters are basically little mini-programs that will manipulate your image in some way. Photoshop comes with quite a number of filters (over 100). We won’t be able to cover all the filters and the myriad uses they can be put to in this lesson. We will introduce you to several of the more useful filters and have you practice using them.

THURSDAY

1. Photoshop Selections

Download the demo files so we can look at the Object Selection Tool:

2. Photoshop Adjustment Layers

Photoshop is known for its editing tools. We can modify and adjust images to look like almost anything. However, because it is pixel-based it has the potential to destroy or permanently alter the originals. Over the years Adobe has continued to improve Photoshop so that we can edit our images in nondestructive ways. Adjustment layers are a big piece of this.

Review: in case you missed Thursday’s class

Work through the following 3 pages (including videos) to learn about Adjustment Layers. If you have Photoshop running at home, you can try them out. Otherwise just read and watch the videos.
