Photoshop’s Sharpening Filters

Photoshop offers many ways to sharpen an image. Some are older, such as Sharpen, Sharpen Edges, and Sharpen More. I never use those anymore. Three in the Filter > Sharpen menu that give you more options are Shake Reduction, Smart Sharpen, and Unsharp Mask. Also, there is another powerful way in the Filter > Other menu – High Pass Filter. Basically, all of them fool your eyes into thinking an image is sharpened by adding more contrast to the edges. It’s one easy way to spot a Photoshopped image. There are some smart ways to get sharpening and have it look more realistic. Watch this video:

Three of the top methods for sharpening are the high pass filter, smart sharpen, and shake reduction. It’s often a matter of personal preference or choosing which best fits the needs of a specific image. You’ll settle on the methods that work best for you. Please watch these two videos:
