Hello! My name is Ava Koelzer, I use any pronouns, and I’m a junior at Chico State majoring in Communication Design. I’m twenty years old and originally from San Diego, where I lived with my parents, my twenty-four-year-old brother, and my twenty-two-year-old sister. One of the hardest parts about moving to Chico has been leaving behind my five adorable cats because I miss them so much!
Back in San Diego, I work as a Food Runner and Expeditor at the Broken Yolk Café, a busy breakfast and lunch restaurant. Working in the kitchen alongside my coworkers has been an incredible experience over the past few years, and I’ve learned so much from it, including brushing up on my Spanish. I have had many job titles while I was in Broken Yolk, inclluding:
Creativity has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and I have a deep love for the arts and humanities. Many of my classes now have to do with art and art history, so this semester is really exciting for me! I’m also passionate about storytelling in all its forms, from books and video games to music, movies, and television. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Squid Game and Arcane on Netflix, both are amazing examples of how storytelling has evolved into visual culture. Since I love art and movies so much, it’s not a big surprise that I’m also into anime. It is just so interesting to be how different cultures around the world utilize similar themes and techniques to tell stories and messages that can be interpreted globally.
