Types of Blue

There are only two kinds of blue in this world, let’s not kid ourselves: dark blue and light blue. Dark blue is the one that always shows up dressed like it’s going to a fancy dinner—mysterious, brooding, trying to look like it knows what it’s doing. It’s the color of the deep ocean, the serious part of the sky, and any official logo that wants to look trustworthy. Dark blue would rather be caught dead than admit it’s just one shade away from purple. Meanwhile, light blue is the color that woke up late, threw on a wrinkled T-shirt, and decided to have a fun day anyway. It’s airy, like a breeze, or like that one friend who insists on wearing sunglasses inside for no reason.

I get it—you’ve seen the rainbow of “blues” at the paint store, each more questionably unique than the last. But let’s be honest here: when you peel back the frills, there’s nothing more than dark and light. Azure? Light blue trying to sound exotic. Navy? Just dark blue putting on airs. 

All those shades, hues, and tones are merely different attempts by blue to keep itself interesting, like putting on hats or doing funny accents. The truth is simple: blue doesn’t need all these extra personalities. Dark blue and light blue are the pillars upon which all of blue’s greatness stands! Every shade you cling to as “special” is just one of these two timeless titans wearing a different outfit. Open your eyes, non-believers, and see blue for what it truly is: a simple but mighty two-party system.
