Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore) is a former Hollywood star who is fired from her TV show for being too old. After an accident, she finds a thumb drive with a presentation for a black market drug called The Substance, which creates a younger version of the user. Elisabeth uses the drug to create a younger version of herself named Sue (Margaret Qualley). The two are required to switch off every seven days, and the company that provides the drug warns that deviating from the rules will harm them both.
